Agency Capacity Building - The Time Is Now

Collecting from lessons learned from the pandemic, food sourcing voices across the network, and from national donors – hyper local food recuse via a strong agency network is critical to feeding hungry neighbors across the network. In this session we will discuss FANO’s agency capacity strategy and hear from members who are participating in the first round of retail agency capacity grants. They will share insights from what they have learned so far and how they intend to build and strengthen their agency network to grow their retail rescue program by building capacity of agency partners and improving equitable access to nutritious food. Additionally, learn about what to expect in FY23 and help prepare your foodbank for additional grant opportunities to support this work. There will be time for open Q&A, so please come with questions!

Agency, Program, and Client Distribution Guidelines as Required by the IRS

This session will address the implications of how an amendment to the 1976 tax reform act determines precisely the type of agency eligible to receive donated product, the eligible client population and the rules for transferring that donated product to eligible recipients. Specific application of IRS code 170e3 to real life agency relations and program examples will be discussed. This session is specifically targeted for staff new to agency relations/programs and lacking familiarity with the IRS regulations addressing the handling of donated product.

Agri Sourcing Optimization & Planning Ahead

The purpose of this session is to inform our network members on the work we have started to shape a national perspective on all three agri streams: produce, protein and dairy. With support of a 3rd party consultant, the Feeding America Supply Chain team conducted an analysis of current and future state of sourcing for agri foods. The work was conducted in calendar Q12021 and includes farm, processor, manufacturing and retail. As we move forward together, some of the questions we are seeking to address:

     1) How much produce/protein/dairy should FA and the Network source to meet the nutritional requirements and preferences for our clients?

     2) Is expansion possible (from today’s volume) and at what cost per pound?

     3) What network capacity and input is needed to support this increase in supply? Please join us to learn more about this nascent perspective and how it may support your strategic planning.
