Over the past year and a half of volatility and uncertainty, the words “mindfulness” and “emotional intelligence” have gained popularity as we seek ways to better care for ourselves and each other. In this session, we’ll explain what these buzzwords mean, and how training in these skills transforms our leadership capabilities, and ultimately, our lives.
Megan Whitney and Fred Wasiak will offer ideas for how we can leverage self-awareness techniques to get off autopilot and become more resourceful. Despite common misconceptions, mindfulness is not about turning off our thoughts or forcing positivity when we feel difficult emotions. It’s simply about being aware. By noticing what is happening in our minds, bodies, and external environment from a place of curiosity and kindness, we can respond to life’s challenges with greater compassion for ourselves and each other.
Since the best way to practice mindfulness is to do it, we’ll practice short, simple breathing techniques that have a big impact - especially during moments of stress. Then we’ll share how to integrate these skills into our daily lives and organizational culture, including joining Feeding America’s Mindfulness Community and participating in Search Inside Yourself, a leadership training for network members.
